PHASE 19

This program is now underway.

ATTENTION DEPARTMENTS!

Start preparing officers NOW for our next phase. The POWER tests will be held at 8:00 a.m. at the YMCA of McDonough County in Macomb. Test dates will be June 05,2010. Registration and Fee due May 28,2010.

CONTACT WIPTU MTU 6 FOR MORE DETAILS AND REGISTRATION.

NOTE:Any officers for whom we still have incomplete applications as of the deadline, as well as any applications received after the deadline will be put on the list for the next class. We will NO LONGER accept last minute applications to the class, or consider an application to be "on time" if it is incomplete. We have made concessions in the past for late hires, missed deadlines, and incomplete paperwork, and it has ALWAYS caused major problems. Deadlines are set and advertised well in advance and are in place for a reason. Please plan accordingly, as your officer has only 18 months from date of appointment to complete his/her training. The POWER test has been scheduled for several dates. Please keep in mind that your officer must pass the POWER test within 6 months of his/her date of appointment, no matter when he/she will begin Basic Training.

Part-time Officer P.O.W.E.R. Test NEW PROCEDURE

Beginning immediately the following process will be adhered to for part-time officers taking the P.O.W.E.R. test. When you appoint a part-time officer the six month time period begins for the part-time officer to successfully pass the P.O.W.E.R. test. The part-time officer must successfully pass the P.O.W.E.R. test within the six month time frame. If the part-time officer does not pass the P.O.W.E.R. test within the six month time limit he or she will not be eligible to attend the part-time basic training. The P.O.W.E.R. test will be administered by the Western Illinois Police Training Unit four times each calendar year. Dates will be published in the flyers and on the WIPTU web site. The part-time officer’s department will need to contact WIPTU to obtain the required forms and current P.O.W.E.R. test fee. The department will be sent a Medical Certificate, which will need to be completed by a physician, a P.O.W.E.R. Test Date Form and an information booklet on the P.O.W.E.R. test. The completed Medical Certificate and the P.O.W.E.R. Test Date Form, along with the P.O.W.E.R. test fee must be submitted to WIPTU before the part-time officer will be allowed to participate in the P.O.W.E.R. test. After the part-time officer has successfully completed the P.O.W.E.R. test a registration packet will be sent for the next phase of the part-time officer training program to the administrator of the department. After the registration packet has been completed and the tuition has been paid the part-time officer will be ready to attend the part-time officer training. If the part-time officer fails any portion of the P.O.W.E.R. test he or she will be allowed, with department approval, to retest those portions that he or she failed within forty-eight hours. If the part-time officer does not retest in the aforementioned time frame or fails the P.O.W.E.R. test again you may allow that part-time officer to attempt to pass the P.O.W.E.R. test until the expiration of the six months from the part-time officer’s date of appointment. The subsequent P.O.W.E.R. test may be scheduled with the instructor or you have the parttime officer to attend the next P.O.W.E.R. test offered by WIPTU. Your department will be responsible for paying the additional P.O.W.E.R. testing fees directly to the instructor. If you have any questions about the P.O.W.E.R. test contact John Levingston, Part-time Officer Training Program Coordinator.
